SDF implements an initiative to distribute water in areas of the Gaza Strip

SDF’s youth network in the Gaza Strip implemented an initiative to provide drinking water to the camps of the Gaza Strip. Water distribution vehicles made tours in several camps and areas in the north and south of the Strip to support citizens and displaced people with water in light of the current crisis and the continuation of the war.

This initiative comes within the “Together For Palestine” initiatives implemented by the Social Developmental Forum (SDF) in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and Save Youth Future Society and funded by the “Education Above All” Foundation, as part of a series of initiatives launched jointly. More than 10,000 people benefited from this water distribution in all implementation areas.

This initiative was implemented regularly, as water trucks were provided to camps for displaced people or remote areas, focusing on areas where people suffer from scarcity or non-availability of water. The initiative included the southern and central Gaza Strip and schools, streets, and residential neighborhoods in the northern Gaza Strip.

This initiative comes as a response from the young volunteers at the Social Developmental Forum to the needs of the displaced in providing clean drinking water, as the initiative targeted more than 10,000 people in schools, displacement camps, and residential neighborhoods.

Hadeel Abu Zeid, Project Coordinator- Social Developmental Forum (SDF)

Abu Zeid stressed the importance of these initiatives that contribute to supporting citizens’ steadfastness in the face of the crisis that has been going on for about 9 months, stressing the continuation of the forum’s work within the emergency response program to citizens’ needs that began last October.

United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Representative in Charge Nadine Cornier says:

Through their tireless efforts, youth volunteers in Gaza are not only distributing water but also sowing seeds of hope and solidarity in their community, demonstrating the profound impact of grassroots action in times of adversity.

45 young men and women from the Social Developmental Forum (SDF) Youth Network participated in implementing the initiative. They supervised the process of distributing and organizing water and helped citizens in the process of mobilization and facilitating matters. An estimated 45,000 liters of water were distributed.

The water initiative came at the right time. After two days without potable water in the area to which we were displaced, the situation in northern Gaza was very difficult. We suffer a lot from the lack of water, as there are long lines to get water. Water is part of our daily lives, affecting us greatly.

Khaled Hamdan, volunteer

These initiatives were conducted within the partnership framework launched by the United Nations Population Fund and Save Youth Future Society in partnership with the Education Above All Foundation, where hundreds of community initiatives were implemented that contributed to enhancing the resilience of citizens in various regions of the Gaza Strip.
